Why did we start it?
Career IRL is a flagship project developed by Elevare co-founders Diya Sanjay and Sara Rajwani. It was created to address a gap in Australian career education, where schools often provide only broad information and focus on "typical" careers such as doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers, etc...
While these professions are often briefly covered, students whose passions don't fit this mould can feel unmotivated, or even pressured to conform to a lifetime career that doesn't align with their interests. There is a lack of accessible, real-life guidance to help students determine whether a career is truly right for them.
This is why we started Career IRL. It is a one-of-a-kind podcast where we interview industry professionals in emerging and unconventional careers. By hearing about the different pathways, degrees, career fields, and unexpected twists experienced by these professionals, students can make more informed career choices that align with their interests and passions.
Presented in an engaging format led by youth the same age as our target audience, we ensure that our advice comes from people who navigated a similar educational landscape, rather than someone entirely removed from the student experience. We will adopt a unique video-podcast style, integrating interviews into an engaging, story-like format to both captivate viewers and provide accurate, practical information.
If you think this could benefit you, please share our website or follow our socials so that Career IRL can reach as many students as possible who need it!
