What do you want to be in the future? (the dreaded question)
This is a question almost every kid gets asked at some point: "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Some kids answer instantly - maybe they've dreamed of being an astronaut since they were born. For others, it's a far trickier question. At school, we're usually introduced to a handful of familiar careers: doctor, lawyer, teacher. And suddenly, it feels like we're being asked to pick what we'll do for the rest of our lives!
By the time you reach Year 12, the pressure ramps up. In addition to worrying about ATAR scores and exams, students must also choose courses that could significantly impact their entire career trajectory. And yet, so many students realise that these commonly suggested jobs aren't where their passions truly lie.
The reality is, there are so many exciting and high-paying careers that most students simply don't know about. From georemediation engineers restoring contaminated land to pension compliance officers ensuring financial security for retirees, the possibilities are endless, but often hidden. The challenge is that if students don't know these jobs exist, they can't even consider them.
That's exactly why Elevare decided to take this common question and turn it into an opportunity to help our community. Launching in January 2026, Ready Set Career is a brand-new course designed to give students a real look into the world of work beyond the "usual" career paths.
Sara and Diya, our CEOs, will be connecting with professionals across a range of industries, interviewing them to uncover what they really do in their jobs, how they discovered their career path, and the skills and experiences that helped them get there. This will take the form of a series of engaging video podcasts, supported by free resources to help students explore careers in depth and find roles that truly align with their interests and passions.
Ready Set Career isn't just about showing what jobs exist - it's about inspiring students to think differently, explore the unexpected, and imagine possibilities they never knew were out there. Whether you're passionate about science, tech, finance, the arts, or something completely off the beaten path, this course will give you the tools and insight to start shaping your future with confidence.
By bringing real people, real stories, and real career insights to the forefront, Elevare hopes to empower students to ask themselves bigger questions: not just what can I do? But what do I want to do, and how can I get there?
